When you think of “pure in heart” what do you think of? Hopefully you do not think of a “goody-two-shoes” like I do…LOL. I think when Jesus spoke these words, perhaps Jesus was thinking more along the lines of, when we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Master of our lives, we become spiritually clean – holy. When God looks at us, all He sees is Jesus’ perfection and the price He paid on the cross for us. This in fact, makes us “pure in heart.”
When we become “pure in heart,” I have heard it said before that “God begins to do the biggest miracle inside of you. He in fact makes you begin to care about the things of God.” This is very true! When you have a repentant heart and now only care about the things of God, a desire to love and please God starts to grow in you. The more we love, serve, worship, and spend time with God, the more we will see Him in our everyday lives. Thus, those who are pure in heart shall see God.
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
