I want to start this blog out with a scripture, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” Psalm 139:23. When I was going through a hard time two or three years a go, it lead me to close up and block out love and emotions (see my blog, “My Heart’s Story…Part 1″). I didn’t want people to see the pain and hurt I was in. If I had read Psalm 139:23 then, it would have scared me out of my mind! No way was I going to be vulnerable with any one, especially God! I thought God called us to be strong and courageous, not heartbroken. What I didn’t realize was that God is the one that makes us strong and courageous! When I prayed my prayers during those sad years of my life, I pretended everything was fine and dandy. When I finally realized God already knew everything about me and still loved me, I knew there was no reason to hide anything from Him ( Psalm 139:4).
So one night I decided to open my heart up to God (see my blog, ” My Heart’s Story…Part 2″). I told Him to take down the walls around my heart and He did! If I hadn’t been vulnerable with God, my life wouldn’t have changed for the better. He brought me out of darkness and into the light. He can do the same for you too. You just have to trust and surrender everything to Him.
My encouragement to you this week is this: if there is something in your life you haven’t told God, then do it! Tell Him your darkest secrets and sins and He can absolutely help you overcome them! I thought I was doing great and nothing was wrong. But once I got really honest and vulnerable with God, I realized God only wanted to help me grow into the person He created me to be! So please don’t be afraid to open up your beautiful heart to God.
Please don’t take this as God will do all the work for me. That simply is not the case either. I had to make changes in my life to make sure the walls stayed down and would never go up again. But God will give you the strength you need to get your mission accomplished (Proverbs 3:5 and Jeremiah 29:13).

Wow, what an encouraging post. Alyssa! We can’t hide anything from God because He knows everything! Before we were even born, He knew all the things we would go through and it would help us to lean on Him more. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” ~ Proverbs 3:5 😊
