Perfect?

Ever since I was a little girl I have had the nickname “Smiley Face.” That nickname still seems to suit me well. I simply love to laugh.

The ironic thing about it all is that I am a melancholy: someone who tends to see the cup half empty and someone who can wonder what the point of life is (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). I am also a perfectionist, which means in every situation, I almost always strive for perfection.

I can often bring this same way of thinking into my relationship with God. I can fall into thinking that I need to be perfect, and just keeping working so that God will love me. In other words, I think I need to earn God’s love.

This, my friends, is a lie from the enemy. God says that we can never earn our way to Him, and He knows that about us (1 John 3:1)! He knows we are going to fall short of perfection, time and time again. In fact, that is why He sent His Son Jesus to die for us, so that He may show us just how much He loves us (Romans 5:8).

However, I have to be reminded daily that there is nothing I can do to make God love me any more or any less than He already does! Jesus was perfection for me; Jesus met the standard, so that I would not have to (Ephesians 2:8-10)!

God is constantly reminding me that He loves me; He loves you too! He loves you. There is nothing in all creation that can separate you from His love (Romans 8:35-39)!

This is your reminder for today: God loves you and there is nothing that is going to separate you from that love. Have peace and rejoice, friends! Your Heavenly Father loves you (Romans 8:1-17)!
