Seventh Day…Rest

imagesThese are the top three things on my to do list today.

1. Write blog

2. Play with my sister

3. Relax

Let me say that last one again. RELAX. I feel like that is not a word we hear much any more. When we text our friends and ask them what they are doing, do they ever say, “Sitting on my front porch relaxing.” No. They always say, “I am going to softball practice,” or “I am out doing errands.” The list goes on and on with things we have to get done.

One thing God has revealed to me lately is that we need to just sit back and relax. Now sometimes that is not always the easiest. I know we all have things going on in our daily lives and it’s difficult. Here is my challenge to you this week: Set apart some time each day to sit and do nothing. I have decided to do this for this week and see what happens. Let’s do it together! What I am going to do is set a timer for twenty minutes a day and just sit. Sit and just be (Psalm 46:10). You can even use this time to pray or you can use it to just look out your window and watch the world around you.

One thing I want to point out before I end this blog is that God rested too (Genesis 2:1). In that verse it says that God rested from all His work. God created us in His image. If He created us in His image and He rested, how much more do we need to rest!?! When we rest we are mimicking God and find His peace in resting (Matthew 11:28). You could even say we are following God’s example when we rest.

Let me know down in the comments section if you are going to try the twenty minute challenge! I really hope you do and decide to set apart a time or day this week to just slow down and relax (Mark 6:31b).

  2. Wow! What an interesting challenge. I think I may try it! As His followers, we are to be imitators of Him. Might as well imitate Him as far as resting. 😊
