This Christmas season I have been in a bit of a depressed mood. Before you call me “Charlie Brown” or a “Scrooge”, let me explain.
This year I have been finding myself becoming tired of the commercialism, lights, and the tinsel. I am tired of the gifts and just the whole aesthetic of Christmas.
To put it simply, my heart yearns for more (Luke 1:46-47). My heart yearns for the “flash” to be about Jesus. My heart yearns to sing of the joy and peace Jesus brings us. Most importantly, my heart wants to run to the manger where Jesus once laid (Luke 2:15-17).
I want to celebrate Jesus, not the fun and easy traditions we do each year. Christmas is so much more than making sure we check everyone off of our list who needs a gift, having the best hot chocolate, or even making sure we get everything done in time.
Christmas is about Jesus and what He came to earth to do (Luke 2). It’s about showing God’s love to others so that they might see Him through us (Matthew 5: 16).
I encourage you to take a look at your own Christmas spirit and ask, “Am I making Christmas about Jesus or something else? Is Jesus the star of my Christmas?”
