Writer’s note: This message has been recently pressed upon my heart by God. I believe God has been leading me on a journey of learning who we are in Christ. Hint, hint, you may see this theme come up in more of my writings in the future.
There is great power in knowing who you are and who God says you are. Satan, however, doesn’t want you to know who God says you are (John 8:43-44)!
Satan wants you to be confused, in self-doubt, and swayed by the world’s thoughts of who you are. Satan doesn’t want you to be aware of the truth that you are loved, set free, and chosen by the Mighty God. He doesn’t want you to be aware of the fact that you have been liberated from his power (Romans 8:20-21).
Satan wants you to focus on your past and all the sinful things you have done. Satan want you to focus on the the physical things that society claims as “ugly;” he wants you to compare yourself to others who appear to have their lives more put together than you. Most of all, Satan doesn’t want you to know the words you are about to read; Satan doesn’t want you to know that FREEDOM is found when you know who you are and how God sees you (Galatians 5:1)!
Let me tell you a few things that God does NOT say you are. God does not say you are:
- A Failure
- A Mistake
- Worthless
- Worse than any other
- Another face in the crowd
- Not needed
This, my sisters and brothers, is who God says you are: You are holy, chosen, and set apart (Colossians 3:12). You are redeemed, forgiven, and liberated (1 Peter 1:18-19, Galatians 3:13). You are dearly loved, valued, cherished, and made worthy through Jesus. You are an heir, heaven-bound, and a co-worker of Christ (1 Corinthians 3:9 and Romans 8:12-17). You are God’s handiwork; fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139).
You are a new creation in Christ Jesus, a vessel for His glory, and a friend of God (2 Corinthians 5:17). You are a prince/princess, royalty, and made perfect through Jesus’ blood on the cross (1 Peter 2:9-10). You are His daughter/son. You are His (Isaiah 43:1).
I hope and pray as you read those words, you were overcome with awe at what God says about you (Hebrews 4:12)! There is nothing you can do to ever change the TRUTH of who you are. Please don’t ever let the world tell you are less than or even more than that (Mark 4:16- For context read 4:1-20). The world does not deserve the privilege or the honor to decide who we are. Our Creator alone gets the honor of telling us who we are (1 Peter 5:8-10).
